Late Shrimp Rally Hands Chillicothe 6-3 Loss
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, were unable to make a late lead hold up in a 6-3 loss to the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp Saturday night at VA Memorial Stadium.
The first half of the game was a pitcher's duel, the game was scoreless for five and a half innings.
Garrett Helsel started for Chillicothe (26-14), throwing six scoreless inninngs, while surrendering just two hits and striking out eight. David Andolina for Illinois Valley (26-13) threw six innings as well, not allowing a run until the bottom of the sixth when Felix Polanco gave the Paints a 1-0 lead with his third home run of the season.
Chillicothe made it 2-0 with a run in the bottom of the seventh. After a walk, Ethen Brown scored on a wild pitch.
With two on and two outs in the top of the eighth, Tyler Dorsch hit an 0-2 pitch to the gap in right-center for a triple, scoring two for the Pistol Shrimp and tying the game at 2-2. Dorsch would score on a wild pitch. Another run would score on a single by Lucas Smith, making it 4-2 Shrimp.
The Paints got one back in the bottom of the eighth, scoring on a single by Cole Raile, cutting it to a one-run game at 4-3.
Illinois Valley added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth on a one-out, two-run double by Kyle Gibson, extending the lead to 6-3, the eventual final.
The Paints and Pistol Shrimp will play in Chillicothe again Sunday at 6:05 p.m. It's Subway Kids Day with all kids 12 and under receiving free admission. After the game, kids can run the bases and meet the players for autographs on the field.
