Colaco Hits Grand Slam, Drives in Six As Paints Beat REX 11-7
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Eric Colaco hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh, putting the home team back in the lead and helping to power the Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, to an 11-7 win over the REX Wednesday night at VA Memorial Stadium.
Colaco drove in six on the night.
The REX (7-12) took the early lead with a run in the top of the first, Chillicothe (13-5) answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a balk.
The Paints took their first lead in the bottom of the third, scoring on Alex Monile's single and making it 2-1.
A wild pitch brought home a run for the REX in the top of the fifth, tying the game at 2-2.
Chillicothe untied the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on Monile's second RBI hit of the night and Colaco's single, making it 4-2.
Carter Murphy hit the first pitch of the sixth over the center field wall, pulling the REX to within on at 4-3. The visitors would add two more in the inning, taking their second lead at 5-4.
They made it 6-4 in the top of the seventh.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Clay Burdette singled, Ben Schechterman was hit by a pitch and Monile walked, loading the bases for Colaco, who hit the Paints' first grand slam of the season, putting the Paints back in front for good at 8-6.
The Rex would get one back in the eighth, but Chillicothe scored three in the bottom of the eighth, taking advantage of three consecutive walks followed by two-straight hit-by-pitches and Colaco's sixth RBI of the night, a sacrifice fly to to wall in center field, making it 11-7.
The Paints and REX play again Thursday night at VA Memorial Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. and it's Thirsty Thursday with $2 domestic drafts.
