Bemis Homers Twice, Burdette Homers As Paints Beat REX 13-5

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, tied a season-high with 16 hits and three home runs in Saturday's 13-5 win over the REX.

Alex Bemis led the game off with his second home run in as many night, sending the Paints (6-3) to a 1-0 lead just one batter in.

Clay Burdette hit his first home run of the season with one out in the top of the second inning, making it 2-0.

The REX (4-5) tied the game in the bottom of the third with a home run of their own, a two-run shot by Wally Diaz, making it 2-2.

Chillicothe regained the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Cole Raile and making it 3-2.

The Paints then opened the top of the fifth with five-straight singles, the fourth of which came off the bat of Trevor Coltenback, scoring Jhors Gomes. Burdette's single plated Felix Polanco and Samuel Fabian, and Ty Hatfield capped a four-run inning, plating Coltenback with a sacrifice fly and making it 7-2.

After the Rex clawed one back with a Diaz double and a Gabe Wright RBI double in the bottom of the fifth, the Paints extended their lead to 8-3 two batter into the top of the sixth. After Raile singled to start the inning, Bemis hit a two-run home run for his second homer of the night, making it 9-3. With two outs in the inning, the Paints took advantage of a hit batter, followed by four consecutive walks to score twice more, making it  11-3.

For the second night in a row, the Paints got a six-inning, no walk performance from their starting pitcher. This time it was Scotty Adelman allowing three runs on six hits and striking out three en-route to his first win of the season in his first start.

Chillicothe made it 12-3 in the top of the eighth, as Polanco walked with the bases loaded, scoring Schechterman, who has singled earlier in the inning.

Coltenback collected the Paints' final hit of the night, a single to start the ninth. He would later score on Chillicothe's third sacrifice fly of the night, this time by Burdette.

The REX would score twice in the bottom of the ninth, but Chillicothe grabbed the win.
