Paints Use Seven-Run Eighth Inning To Beat Mill Rats 16-8
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, saw a 7-2 lead evaporate in the middle innings, then scored seven runs in the eighth, pulling away from the Mill Rats in Johnstown for a 16-8 win Tuesday.
Leading 7-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Johnstown (2-1, 17-12) scored four times to get within one. Then Caleb Smith homered off the foul pole in right, tying the game in the seventh. A few batters later, the Mill Rats took the lead 8-7.
Chillicothe (3-0, 15-15) answered with its biggest inning of the season in the eighth. The first seven batters of the inning reached and scored, capped by Jude Clough's three-run home run over the 40' "screen monster" in left field, giving the Paints a 14-8 lead. The seven runs tied the Paints' season high for runs in an inning and their seven hits in the inning is a new season high for hits in an inning.
The Paints added two more in the ninth, making it 16-8, the eventual final score.
Chillicothe has now won four in a row and six of its last seven. The win ended Johnstown's six-game win streak.
