Paints Win Third Straight, Beat Kokomo 6-4
KOKOMO, Ind. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, completed a two-game road sweep of the Kokomo Creek Chubs with a 6-4 win Sunday.
The Paints (2-0, 14-15) scored in the first inning for the second-straight game, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Alex Bemis and Tanner Patterson's sacrifice fly.
Kokomo (0-2, 13-16) got it's first run on a solo home run by Jedvier Garcia in the bottom of the third, cutting the Paints' lead to 2-1.
Cam Gravelle made it 3-1 Chillicothe knocking home Mitchel Szymczak in the top of the seventh.
The Creek Chubs answered in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game at 3-3 on a Garcia double and, after an error extending the inning, an RBI single by Coulter Hamilton.
In the top of the eighth, the Paints opened the inning with three straight hits. Brady Groves singled and Patterson doubled, putting runner at second and third with no outs. Pinch hitter Samuel Meyer singled, scoring Groves and putting Chillicothe back in front. Mitchel Szymczak then drove home a second run in the inning on a groundout, making it 5-3.
In the ninth, Gravelle collected his fourth hit of the game on a double to right field, advancing on a Bemis flyout and scoring on an infield hit by Groves, making it 6-3. The RBI for Groves was his 10th in his last three games.
Kokomo plated one in the ninth, but never mounted a serious threat as the Paints grabbed the win.
With the win, Chillicothe takes the season-series 5-2 over Kokomo, they do not play each other the rest of the season.
Chillicothe is back in action Tuesday in Johnstown, Pa., starting a two-game series with the Mill Rats at 7 p.m.
