Paints Start Second Half With 6-3 Win In Kokomo
KOKOMO, Ind. - Justin Gorski homered on the first pitch of the game and the Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, went on to a 6-3 win over the Creek Chubs in Kokomo to start the second half of the season.
After Gorski's home run, the Paints added three more runs in the first on three hits and an error. Alex Bemis drove in one and Brady Groves drove in two on a double.
Kokomo (0-1, 13-15) got an unearned run back in the third, another unearned run in the fourth and a run in the fifth, cutting it to a 4-3 ballgame.
Chillicothe (1-0, 13-15) tacked on a run in the seventh on Samuel Meyer's RBI single. The Paints added another in the eighth on a two-out, RBI double by Tripp Johns.
The Creek Chubs loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, but Cameron Birch came on induced an inning-ending double play on the first pitch he threw. Birch stayed in for the ninth, earning his first save of the season.
Cal Chase (1-0), in his first game back with the Paints this summer, earned the win in relief, throwing two scoreless innings and striking out two.
