Schweizer Dominates, Groves Drives in Seven as Paints Beat Aviators 14-1

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, got a dominant pitching performance by Evan Schweizer and took advantage of early mistakes in a 14-1 seven-inning win over Lafayette Thursday at VA Memorial Stadium.

Schweizer (2-1) was perfect through four innings, striking out six of the first 12 Lafayette (17-9) batters. Meanwhile, the Paints bunch runs quickly.

Chillicothe (12-15) scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the first, thanks in part to two Lafayette errors and a three-run double by Brady Groves

A wild pitch, an error and a Matt Smith sacrifice fly brought home a pair of unearned runs for the Paints in the second, making it 7-0.

Chillicothe made it 10-0 in the third on Groves' two-run home run and wild pitch.

Gabe Boyd doubled to lead off the fifth for the Aviators' first hit of the night.

Lafayette scored its only run in the top of the sixth on back-to-back two-out hits. Drew Potts doubled, scoring one batter later on Blake Bowen's RBI single, making it 10-1.

After the Paints loaded the bases to start the bottom of the sixth on a hit and two walks, there was a 40-minute weather delay. After the delay, Groves hit a two-run double, giving him seven RBIs on the night. A throwing error allowed another run to score on the play, making it 13-1. Groved later made it 14-1, scoring on a wild pitch.

Schweizer finished the night with a one, two, three top of the seventh, sending Chillicothe to a mercy-rule win. Schweizer went all seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, walking one and striking out eight.

The Paints and Aviators play again Friday at 7:05 p.m. in Chillicothe. The first 500 fans will receive free Paints sunglasses, courtesy of Printex Printing.
