CJ Richmond Grand Slam Powers Paints To 13-4 Win Over Champion City
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, jumped out to a 12-0 lead Wednesday night en-route to a 13-4 win over the Champion City Kings.
Chillicothe (5-3) took the early lead, scoring on CJ Carmichael's RBI single that brought home Colin West in the bottom of the second. The run marked the sixth time in their first eight games that the Paints scored first.
The Paints broke the game open in the bottom of the third, scoring seven times and taking an 8-0 lead. West knocked home Nate Hill to get it started. Carmichael brought home another on a sacrifice fly. Justin Teixeira, on base after a single, stole second and, while the throw to second skipped into center field, West was able to score on the play. After a walk, a pitching change and a hit batter loaded the bases, CJ Richmond promptly uploaded them with his first home run of the season, a grand slam to straightaway center field, making it 8-0.
Carmichael picked up his third and fourth RBIs of the night in the bottom of the fourth, knocking home West and Tyler Stone and extending the lead to 12-0.
Champion City (0-8) finally got on the board with three runs in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of a wild pitch and a two-run double by Austin Amburgey.
The Paints got one back in the bottom og the fifth, scoring on Teixeira's double to left center, making it 13-3.
Champion City plated the game's final run in the top of the sixth, making it 13-4, the eventual final.
Luke Walter started for Chillicothe, not allowing a run or a hit over four innings while walking three and striking out four. Tyler Mendez allowed four runs, three earned, on two hits and two walks over two innings. AJ McAninch (1-0) pitched the final three innings, earning the win after allowing just one hit and striking out two.
Richmond and Carmichael each ended the day with a game-high four RBIs. Alex Bemis collected two RBIs on a 2-5 night. West and Teixeira each had an RBI as well.
