Paints Drop Matinee In Johnstown, 5-3
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, couldn't find the clutch hit they needed in a 5-3 loss to the Mill Rats Wednesday, splitting the season-opening series.
For the second straight night to start the season, Chillicothe (1-1) scored first. Zach Henderson plated Mitchell Szymczak with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second, but the lead didn't last long.
Johnstown (1-1) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second Tyler Giordano brought home Zach McEllroy with an RBI single. Colton Ayres plated Bryce Jackson with an RBI groundout, making it 2-1.
The Mill Rats added on with two more in the fourth and one in the fifth, taking a 5-1 lead.
Chillicothe got back within two in the top of the sixth when Jackson Boles singled to center field, scoring Alex Bemis. Carson Cox knocked home Cam Gravelle on a groundout, cutting it to a 5-3 ballgame.
The Paints got the bases loaded with one out in the seventh, but a double-play ended the threat, the last Chillicothe would get on the day.
