P/OF Tyler Mendez Re-Signs With Paints

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The back-to-back Prospect League champion Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, have re-signed pitcher/outfielder Tyler Mendez for the upcoming 2024 season, which begins May 28.

Last summer, Mendez appeared in 13 games as a pitcher, starting twice. He wen't 2-0 with a 6.00 ERA while striking out 21 and walking 12 over 30 innings. As a batter, Mendez hit .209 with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs in limited action. 

In the decisive game three of the Prospect League Championship Series, Mendez came out of the bullpen for the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out three, helping Chillicothe capture its Prospect League record fourth championship.

Mendez was unable to play this spring, his sophomore season, at Kean University this spring due to an injury. As a freshman in 2023, Mendez made four starts on the mound and appeared in several games as a position player and batter.

The Woodbridge, N.J. native is a graduate of Colonia High School.
