Will Rettig Re-Signs With Paints

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, have re-signed pitcher Will Rettig for the upcoming 2024 season, which begins May 28.

Rettig was a key piece of the Paints 2023 Prospect League Championship team, appearing in 10 games with five starts. He earned a 5-3 record while allowing 34 earned runs over 54 innings, striking out 36, walking 21 and amassing a 5.67 ERA.

In the postseason last summer, Rettig started two of the Paints' five games. In the Eastern Conference Championship against Springfield, he threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, walking four and striking out four to earn the win. Rettig also got the win in the decisive game three of the Prospect League Championship Series over Quincy after pitching five innings.

The 6-foot-5 righthander is in his sophomore season at Denison University, which is currently ranked No. 6 nationally by d3baseball.com. So far this spring, Rettig is 2-0 with a 3.77 ERA in three starts for the Big Red. He has struck out 11 batter and walked seven over 14 1/3 innings, while allowing opponents to hit .269.

A Perrysburg, Ohio native, Rettig was a two-sport athlete at Perrysburg High School, playing basketball and baseball. He was named all-conference second team, first-team all-district and Prep Baseball Report named him honorable mention all-Ohio. At Denison, Rettig is majoring in data analytics with sports analytics concentration and minoring in psychology. He's also a member of the Denison Student Athlete Advisory Council. 

The Chillicothe Paints open the home portion of their schedule Thursday, May 30, at VA Memorial Stadium against the Johnstown Mill Rats at 7:05 p.m. Draft beer will be just $2 for Thirsty Thursday and fans will be treated to a postgame Fireworks Extravaganza, sponsored by 94 Country, following the game.
