Paints Re-Sign Outfielder Ben Gbur

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, announce the re-signing of outfielder Ben Gbur for the upcoming season, which begins on the road at Champion City, Wednesday, June 1.

Last season, Gbur hit .265 for the Paints. After a slow start, he became one of the most dangerous batters in the Paints' lineup, hitting .361 and collecting 30 hits in 20 games in the month of July, including four doubles, five home runs and knocking in 24. He led the team with nine home runs on the season, two of which were grand slams.

Gbur is a senior at The College of Wooster, hitting .364 for the Fighting Scots this spring over 30 games. The 6-foot-4 outfielder has collected 48 hits, 13 doubles, one triple, six home runs and 32 RBIs this season, while stealing 21 bases on 23 attempts (as of April 28).

In his 115 games at Wooster, Gbur owns a career .333 average over parts of four seasons, collecting 139 hits, 28 doubles, eight triples, 17 home runs and 98 RBIs. He has also racked up 44 stolen bases on 54 attempts.

Gbur is a Hilliard, Ohio native and a graduate of Darby High School, where he hit .335 over his final two seasons, collecting 57 hits, a pair of home runs and 43 RBIs.

The Chillicothe Paints open the home portion of their season Thursday, June 2 at VA Memorial Stadium against the Champion City Kings at 7:05 p.m. Draft beer will be just $2 for Thirsty Thursday, thanks to Budweiser, and a Fireworks Extravaganza will follow, sponsored by 94 Country.
