Paints Sign Akron Catcher Mike Sprockett

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, announce the signing of catcher Mike Sprockett for the upcoming season, which begins on the road at Champion City, Wednesday, June 1.

Sprockett is a regular contributor as a freshman catcher at the University of Akron this spring, currently hitting .261 with six doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs for the Zips in 29 games, 26 of which were starts.

A native of Liberty Township, Ohio, Sprockett earned first-team All-Ohio honors as a catcher at division I Lakota East High School. As a senior, Sprockett hit .361 over 26 games, collecting 30 hits, five doubles and 21 RBIs. He was named first-team All-Greater Miami Conference for his efforts. Perfect Game ranked Sprockett as the fifth-best catching prospect in the state of Ohio and 19th overall in the state.

The Chillicothe Paints open the home portion of their season Thursday, June 2 at VA Memorial Stadium against the Champion City Kings at 7:05 p.m. Draft beer will be just $2 for Thirsty Thursday, thanks to Budweiser, and a Fireworks Extravaganza will follow, sponsored by 94 Country.
