V.A.
Memorial Stadium
"Home of the Chillicothe Paints"

The
Chillicothe Paints make their home at the Veterans Administration Memorial
Stadium located on the V.A. Medical Center campus. The stadium is located
just 3 miles north of Chillicothe on State Route 104. It was constructed in
1954 by the, "Blue Star Mothers of America.” A commemorative plaque
attached to the wall in the concession area of the stadium reads,
"In Living Remembrance of Those Who
Served to Preserve the Ideals of this Nation and in Love of Fellow Man."
Originally, the stadium and playing surface were to provide a place for
softball games, played by the thousands of veterans who were long-term
patients at the V.A. Medical Center. In 1993, with the cooperative effort of
the V.A. Administration, the Paints' organization completely renovated the
stadium.
During
the winter of 2006, a cooperative effort between the Ross County
Commissioners and the Convention Facilities Authority resulted in VA
Memorial Stadium receiving a new playing surface named FieldTurf. In
addition, a wooden patio and deck was constructed along the left-field foul
line and expanded again in 2011. A new roof covering the entire stadium was
installed in 2010.
VA
Memorial Stadium is now a true multi-purpose facility that hosts numerous
non-baseball events including girls’ high school and collegiate fastpitch
softball games, and an adult slow-pitch softball league and tournament.
Also,
many concerts and other entertainment events are held at the stadium.
The
facility that the Paints call home is one of the most unique and intimate
ballparks in all of baseball. In 2011, VA Memorial Stadium drew over
100,000 fans in over 300 events throughout a 10-month period. In addition
to hosting Paints' games, the stadium is host to various other events. The
North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) & The Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament will both hold their annual baseball
tournaments in May 2012. In June 2012, the OHSBCA Mizuno All-Ohio Series
once again will be played at VA Memorial Stadium. The Ohio High School
Athletic Association also plays their District and Regional baseball
tournaments at the stadium. VA Memorial Stadium is also the site of
numerous collegiate and high school regular-season baseball and softball
games in the spring. From 2008-2011 VA Memorial Stadium was the home of the
Mid-American Conference (MAC) Baseball Tournament. VA Memorial Stadium has
also been the site of the historic Ralph Bell Crusade in 1997, the Boston
Pops Concert in 2003 and the “Be The One” spiritual concert in 2011. The
medical center also hosts numerous veterans' activities including POW-MIA
Recognition Day and a Veteran's Day Parade.
