V.A.
Memorial Stadium
"Home of the Chillicothe Paints"

The Chillicothe Paints make their home at the Veterans
Administration Memorial Stadium located on the V.A. Hospital campus. The
stadium is located just 3 miles north of Chillicothe on State Route 104. It
was constructed in 1954 by the "Blue Star Mothers of America." A
commemorative plaque attached to the wall in the concession area of the
stadium reads,
"In Living Remembrance of Those Who Served
to Preserve the Ideals of this Nation and in Love of Fellow Man."
Originally, the stadium and playing surface was to provide a place
for softball games, played by the thousands of veterans who were long-term
patients at the V.A. Hospital. In 1993, with the cooperative effort of the
V.A. Administration, the Paints' organization completely renovated the
stadium.
During the winter of 2006, a cooperative
effort between the Ross County Commissioners and the Convention Facilities
Authority resulted in VA Memorial Stadium receiving a new playing surface
named FieldTurf.
Also, a wooden deck was constructed along the left-field foul line. VA
Memorial Stadium is now a true multi-purpose facility that hosts numerous
non-baseball events including softball, football and soccer games. Also,
many concerts and other entertainment events can occur at the stadium.
The facility that the Paints call home is one of the most unique
and intimate ballparks in all of baseball. In 2008, VA Memorial Stadium
drew over 200,000 fans in over 300 events throughout a 10-month period. In
addition to hosting Paints' games, the stadium is host to various other
events. The North Coast Athletic Conference will hold it's baseball
tournament for the first time at VA Memorial Stadium during the last week of
April 2010. The Mid-American Conference will hold it's Baseball Championship at
VA Memorial Stadium in May 2010. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference Tournament will be played in May 2010. In June of 2010, the OHSBCA Mizuno All-Ohio Series will be played at VA Memorial. The Ohio High
School Athletic Association plays their District and Regional baseball and
soccer tournaments at the stadium. VA Stadium is also the site of numerous
collegiate and high school baseball games in the spring along with soccer
and adult softball in the fall. VA Memorial Stadium was the site of the
historic Ralph Bell Crusade in 1997 and the Boston Pops Concert in 2003.
The hospital also hosts numerous veterans' activities including POW-MIA
Recognition Day and a Veteran's Day Parade.
