Paints trade Arreola for veteran left-hander
The Chillicothe Paints have come to terms
with left-handed hurler, Joe Brown, who was acquired in a
trade with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association.
The Paints dealt right-handed pitcher, Daryl Arreola,
to Lincoln to complete the transaction.
Brown, 5-10, 175, reportedly has a good fastball, but
his best pitch is his outstanding changeup. He appeared in 33 games
as a reliever last year for the Saltdogs, compiling 46 strikeouts
and walking only 19 batters.
“Brown, has a very good strikeout to walks ratio and we
really needed a solid lefty in bullpen,” explained Paints’ manager,
Mark Mason. “He has been very effective everywhere he has pitched.”
In 2006, Brown, age 26 and a native of Friendswood,
Texas, spent the season with Winnipeg in the Northern League where
he posted a 3.60 ERA in 65 innings pitched. He began his
professional career in 2005 splitting time between Jackson in the
Central League and Quebec in the Canadian League. In 45 innings
combined, he fanned 71 batters and walked just 31. Opponents hit a
weak .185 off his offerings.
Arreola, age 25, posted a 3-4 record with a 3.19 ERA
for the Paints in 2007. He hurled 73.1 innings, allowing 69 hits, 20
free passes and 10 hit-batsmen. The hard-throwing right-handed
fanned 52.
